Free Practical Information for Going Overseas to Thailand
Analyze the challenges and opportunities of the industry in Thailand
Overview
The Revenue Department (RD) is stepping up tax audits, and Chinese businesses in Thailand commonly face compliance risks across VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax, related-party transactions and transfer pricing. Z&X performs a comprehensive health check of your historical filings, identifying risks, quantifying exposures and recommending practical remediation, so you can address issues early and reduce the risk of back taxes, surcharges and penalties.
This is a management advisory tax risk review. It does not constitute a statutory audit or assurance opinion, and its findings are based on the information and interviews you provide.
Scope of Services
Our locally licensed team reviews each tax in turn:
· Value added tax (VAT): Matching of output and input tax, rate application, cross-border services and self-assessed VAT, and compliance of input tax credits.
· Withholding tax (WHT): Withholding requirements and rates for each type of payment, cross-border withholding and treaty relief, and timeliness of filings.
· Corporate income tax (CIT): Book-to-tax adjustments, deductibility of expenses, loss carryforwards and application of tax incentives.
· Related-party transactions and transfer pricing: Identification of related-party transactions, pricing policies and documentation, and an initial assessment of disclosure risk under Section 71 ter.
· Other taxes: Targeted compliance checks on stamp duty, specific business tax (SBT), social security and more.
For deeper analysis, a dedicated related-party transaction and transfer pricing risk assessment can be added, and the scope can be extended to multiple years or entities.
Who It's For
· Historical compliance review: Companies seeking a systematic review of past filings to uncover issues early.
· Pre-transaction or pre-investment review: Companies needing a clear picture of their own tax position ahead of a transaction or fundraising.
· Under tax authority scrutiny: Companies that have received inquiries from, or are under close attention by, the tax authorities.
· Annual head office review: Chinese companies whose parent requires an annual tax risk assessment of their Thai entities.
Process
· Kick-off and scoping (within 1 week of engagement): Confirm scope, issue a document request list and assemble the project team.
· Information gathering and fieldwork (1–3 weeks after documents are complete): Document review, interviews, on-site work (where required) and data collection.
· Analysis and working papers: Professional analysis and drafting of report working papers.
· Review and finalization (1–2 weeks after first draft): Partner review, independent review and sign-off by an equity partner, and finalization.
· Delivery and Q&A: Formal delivery, walkthrough of findings and follow-up Q&A within the agreed period.
The overall timeline is around 4–6 weeks, depending on document readiness and the number of entities. A Chinese-speaking project manager serves as your single point of contact, with communication and reporting in Chinese throughout.
