BOI: Advanced Materials Investment Applications Exceed THB 23.5 Billion
2026-10-16

The BOI announced on 15 October that from 2023 to the first half of 2026, 35 projects worth more than THB 23.5 billion (about RMB 5.17 billion) applied for investment promotion in advanced materials, nanomaterials, specialty fibers and fabrics, mainly serving electronics, battery and clean energy supply chains.

Investment Scale and Products

BOI press release No. 182/2569 shows that from 2023 to the first half of 2026, a total of 35 projects in this category applied for investment promotion, with a value of more than THB 23.5 billion. Products include:

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC), thermally conductive graphite film and high-performance ceramic components;

  • Battery and fuel cell materials, neodymium magnets and motor components;

  • Glass fiber fabric and quartz fiber fabric for printed circuit boards, and high-performance fabrics and fibers for automotive use;

  • Advanced materials for precision manufacturing.

Representative Companies in Four Segments

Electronics: The press release notes that a single high-end AI server requires up to 30,000 MLCCs; Murata Electronics, Kyocera AVX, Jones Tech and others manufacture capacitors and graphite film in Thailand.

Fibers and fabrics: Fulltech Fiber Glass (Taiwan) produces glass fiber fabric for printed circuit boards, including high-performance grades for AI servers; Pamica (Thailand) produces quartz fiber yarn and fabric; Cymax Composite produces glass fiber fabric for electronics.

EVs, batteries and clean energy: BGN Thai produces carbon-coated aluminum foil and copper foil for lithium batteries; Finis Well Manufacturing produces neodymium magnets and motor components; Xinyuan Graphite produces expanded graphite and bipolar plates for hydrogen fuel cells.

Nanomaterials: Golden Egret Cemented Carbide produces tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder; CoorsTek Advanced Materials produces ceramics for automotive pressure sensors and silicon nitride bearing balls.

Policy Direction

The BOI said it will support upstream raw materials and components, R&D and talent development, moving Thai industry from downstream to upstream and making Thailand a regional hub for advanced materials.

Key Points

  • From 2023 to the first half of 2026, 35 advanced materials projects worth more than THB 23.5 billion applied for promotion.

  • Products are concentrated in MLCC, graphite film, glass fiber fabric, battery materials, magnetic materials and ceramics.

  • Downstream demand comes from AI servers, EVs and clean energy.

  • The BOI will support upstream materials, R&D and talent.

Z&X Insight

For BOI applications by materials projects, the key is whether the products and processes match a specific activity in the list of promoted activities. Machinery and raw material lists should also be prepared at the application stage so that duty-free imports can be processed after approval. Z&X BOI Investment Promotion Application serves Chinese-invested businesses in manufacturing, new energy and other sectors, matching activity category, investment size, technical requirements and workforce structure; approval is subject to BOI review.
